Medium stands out as a platform not just for reading, but for meaningful interaction. There are alot of online platforms promising to be the next big thing. Yet, Medium shines as a space where authenticity and personal stories take center stage.

It’s a platform where writers aren’t just sharing information; they’re sharing journeys.

Now are all the journeys viral?

No.

But, if you do it correctly and stay consistent, you’ll find that you will eventually fall in love with the overall process.

We are creatures of habits and yet we tend to forget about this universal law.

I know it’s a process. But, if you want to be a successful writer, you will need to use these details to step it up a bit.

You will need to truly understand the platform from end to end.

The secret 🔏 sauce that helps people get notice.

Here is how you can do it:

1. Stop Worrying About How to Start

A quick glance into the homepage and you’ll see a plethora of different styles and opinion on what people believe to be interesting.

Your job is to do the same from YOUR perspective.

Your focus is to tell the story. That’s it.

If you spend to much time worry about what to write, you will never write. Be like Nike and JUST DO IT.

2. Learn the Power of Storytelling

Recently, I was listening to a podcast and the whole 1 hour and 30 minutes spoke about the lesson that occur from sharing a story. We all know how to tell a story. But, again we seem to act like we don’t when it’s time to write. It’s the same concept as if you were talking to a friend.

The problem is most people try to write differently from how they actually talk.

And it’s really not their fault.

If you went to grade school then you were taught to write differently. More structured. Which is good to a certain degree, yet when doing so it can modify the way you capture the attention of your readers.

Crazy thing is, after researching the best tips on writing they all say this one thing:

Forget what you were taught and learn how to write how you speak.

The lesson here is simple:

You’ll need to unlearn what you were taught and then learn to write so that people can easily comprehend what your trying to say.

3. Put in the Extra Mile

Once you have created a few thought pieces and hit published. The next best way to get notice is to start engaging in other people’s stories.

Which just means when you resonate with an article leave a thoughtful comment. Give it claps and highlight key points that made your interest peak.

Share how it impacted you and what you learned from it. If you have a different perspective then share that too. This can help keep the juices flowing and give people a bit of insight of how you think.

In turn, people will start to check out your profile and do the same. It’s a ripple effect.

4. Build Engagement by Being Present

Try to spend 30 minutes a day on Medium. Don’t just scroll aimlessly. Read actively. Comment thoughtfully. Follow writers whose stories strike a chord with you.

This dedicated half-hour is your window to not just consume content but to connect with it — and its creators.

Again, it’s all about connecting and the only way you can do that is by actively participating in the conversations.

5. Listen and Learn

Engagement is a two-way street. As you interact with others, pay attention to the topics that stir interest and provoke discussion.

Find popular content and look to the type of audience that speak to it. Make note of it and see if you can establish a different view.

If you want to boost your visibility; you’ll need to understand what resonates with your audience. Use these insights to shape your future posts.

6. Sharing Your Journey

Now, turn the lens onto yourself. Share your experiences, your challenges, and your victories. Remember, Medium thrives on personal narratives. Your story could be the beacon to someone else is looking for inspiration. By being vulnerable and honest, you invite others into your world, encouraging a deeper level of engagement.

In Conclusion: It’s About Community

Doubling your engagement on Medium isn’t just about numbers. It’s about forging connections, learning from others, and being part of a community that grows together. Each comment, each story, and each interaction is a step towards a more engaged and fulfilling experience on this unique platform. So go ahead, dive into the conversation, and watch not just your engagement, but your understanding of the world, double.
